#10 Penguins
A legendary animal living in South America, “tuxedo” clad Magellanic penguins usually gather into a large group along the coasts of Chile and Argentina for the purpose of breeding. Their breeding period starts in September and lasts until late February or early March. In the period when they have to look for a perfect place with the best warm climate, these flightless birds do an extreme swim all the way to the north area to settle themselves in a warm region.

Recognized for having the longest migration in the mammal kingdom, Humpback Whales can travel farther than any other species to reach their ideal spot for breeding and feeding. During their migration, Humpback Whales pass through the shores of Mozambique’s Quirimbas Archipelago while carrying their newborn babies. To witness the mesmerizing move of this species, make time during the months of May to December, the season for great Humpback Whale watching. If you are there in June, you might have the chance to see them giving birth in the ocean waters of Ecuador. It is believed they migrate there from Antarctica.

Being unable to withstand extreme cold weather, this majestic species takes initiative so they don’t freeze in the winter season. This spectacular event is one the most thrilling migrations in nature. Millions of Monarch Butterflies dominate the sky as they travel all the way to Mexico and southern areas of California. Monarch Butterflies are the only insects that have the capability of flying over 3,000 miles every year. The best time to watch the incredible migration event is during the months of January and February. This can be done at the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve in Mexico.

Check out an impressive gathering of millions of fireflies, also known as lightning bugs. As May comes along, you can see them in Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee. It has the largest synchronized gathering of fireflies in the world! You can be in a camp at the park while you witness it.
#6 Flamingos
Witness these pink-colored birds that gracefully flock in large crowds. Flamingos migrate along Tanzania’s several alkaline lakes. The reason for their migration from one lake to another is their food source depleting. It is also because their breeding season is about to start. Flamingoes can usually be spotted at Lake Manyara Tree Lodge around June to September and from January to March. These periods are subject to change depending on the weather.
#5 Bats
This species has something special to unveil. A massive increase of their population took over in Kasanka National Park in Zambia. There is an astounding number when they move. As the end of October comes, the bats are typically attracted to seed-rich fruits that fill up the trees. With this, they start conquering Kasanka’s lush swamp forest. Only a few weeks after, they multiply by over eight million! Their exceptional population is enough for them to dominate a large hectare until early January.
#4 Elephants
Known to be the largest gathering of Asian elephants, this yearly occasion is typically seen at the Minneriya National Park in Sri Lanka. This remarkable event is recognized as “The Gathering” where a total of 300 large elephants are brought together during the dry season. This event serves as the ideal time for them to interact, play, and eat together. It is believed that these pachyderms have been doing this kind of journey for centuries, as the area can provide them with enough water and fresh green grass.
#3 Polar Bears
Polar bears are famously known as the “Lords of the Arctic.” As their annual migration season begins, there are thousands of them at the Churchill in Manitoba. This phenomenal event happens every October to November. The paradise where they typically gather is also known as the “Polar Bear Capital of the World”. Before Polar Bears migrate, they wait for months for the “Big freeze” to arrive. When that moment finally happens, they begin to head over to Hudson Bay for the seal hunting season. It is a chance to see them in the wild! You can catch them playing in the snow.
#2 Great Zebras
This spectacular scene is of thousands of striking black and white animals. During the migration of Great Zebras, they travel an extreme distance. It normally takes them several days or even months to reach their final destination! Annually, they go for a trip of about 1,000 kilometers in Botswana. Their long voyage starts between July and November. They begin their route along the pathway on the Chobe River and its nearby area going over the grasslands of Nxai Pan National Park. When they settle in their chosen place, they stay for over 80 days before heading back to their original home.

At the Mara River they cross, there are crocodiles watching and waiting for them to arrive. It is recommended to go around July to October.
